Capital Pride - DC’s Annual LGBT Parade

Time again for the annual Capital Price parade and street festival celebrating pride in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities in Washington, DC.

From civil rights groups and community organizations to the always entertaining DC Cowboys dance troupe to a few more outrageous groups, like the cross-dressing baton twirlers, the Capital Pride parade is the third largest LGBY parade in the U.S., and one of Washington, DC’s most entertaining events.  The parade is sure to include some over-the-top costumes, unique performances, silly floats, and some some general wackiness, along with the serious groups raising money for issues such as AIDS research and education. So a word of caution, some of the parade is adult-themed and not geared towards younger children (mostly due to racy costumes or lack thereof).

A few of the more popular festival events include:

  • The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington Presents “America, the Fabulous!” and the 2008 Miss Fabulous America Pageant - Lisner Auditorium (GWU), 730 21st Street NW - Friday, June 6, 8:00 p.m.
  • Mr. and Miss Capital Pride Pageant - Wednesday, June 11, 8:30 p.m.
  • Capital Pride Bachelor Auction - Remingtons - 639 Pennsylvania Ave, SE - Thursday June 12, 9:00 p.m.
  • Capital Pride Bachelorette Auction - RnR Bar and Lounge - 717 6th Street, NW - Thursday June 12, 9:00 p.m.
  • Capital Pride Parade - Dupont Circle and Logan Circle Neighborhoods. Saturday June 14, 6:30 p.m.
  • Capital Pride Festival - Pennsylvania Ave., between 4th and 7th St., NW - Sunday June 15, 11:00 AM - 6:00 p.m.

The parade route covers about 20 blocks, so there are plenty of great viewing locations.
