Noises Off Again
Sometimes I’ve seen some of the most enjoyable and affordable theater productions, not at the Kennedy Center or the National Theatre, but at some of the 80 small local community playhouses in the Washington, DC area. It’s usually easy to find a fun, interesting and hopefully great performance.
And where else can you find award-winning plays being produced by people who perform just for the love of being on stage? Plus, tickets to most local community theater performances cost not much more than the cost of a movie ticket and popcorn.
I’ve written about the hysterical play Noises Off once before, when it was playing at Arena Stage. Now, the Tony Award-nominated sex romp play-within-a-play is coming to a small community theater, Port Tobacco Players, in La Plata, Maryland.
The only thing missing from the script of Noises Off is probably the “Benny Hill Show” theme music playing in the background.
