Fighting Breast Cancer with Paul McCartney’s Ecce Cor Meum
In a musical and choral tribute to his late wife and photographer Linda, who died of breast cancer in 1998, Paul McCartney wrote Ecce Cor Meum (Latin for Behold, My Heart).
The deeply personal oratorio, which took the legendary Beatle eight years to write, includes orchestra, choir and soloists. It expresses his pain of loss, lost love and the joy of loving. Ecce Cor Meum was first performed in the U.S. in New York in November of 2006, at a sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall.
Probably the best known oratorio is Handel’s Messiah.
In its Washington premiere, Laura Lewis, soprano, joins the Cathedral Choral Society, in a partnership fundraiser concert with three breast cancer organizations.
The timing of this performance is a bit coincidental, as Sir Paul and soon-to-be ex-wife Heather Mills are currently embroiled in what sounds like a lengthy settlement dispute before the British courts.
McCartney, worth an estimated $3 billion, has reportedly offered Mills $40 million as a settlement after their four year marriage ended, but she is demanding $100 million.
I can only assume that Sir Paul will not composing anything positive about this wife.
The three organizations are the George Washington Cancer Institute, the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund, and Men Against Breast Cancer.

Thank you for mentioning our concert. Actually, Ecce Cor Meum is being sung by the Cathedral Choral Society, resident symphonic chorus at the Cathedral. The first half of the program features William Walton’s Coronation Te Deum (with the Winchester choristers), Gustav Holst’s rarely heard The Hymn of Jesus, and a separate section of music sung by the Winchester Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys. These are exciting works. Come join us!
Thanks for the clarification.
