Hollywood East - Washington DC?

Okay, perhaps there hasn’t been anywhere near the number of films shot in Washington, DC as there has in LA or New York, but there have been some great films (or at least some memorable scenes) shot in DC.  Some of the best I can think of include:

  • Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - Naive Jimmy Stewart gets elected to Congress and ends up in over his head.  He heads to the Lincoln Memorial for some much needed sole searching. Some great shots inside the Capitol Building as well.
  • Born Yesterday - Judy Holiday gets a tour of DC’s most famous attractions and an education from a DC insider.
  • All the President’s Men - The story of the Watergate scandal, with some great shots around town.
  • Forrest Gump - Tom Hanks ends up making a speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial over looking the Reflecting Pool.
  • In The Line Of Fire - Also on the Lincoln Memorial steps, Clint Eastwood and Rene Russo share some ice cream.

Three Days of the CondorNo Way Out

  • Three Days of the Condor - The contract hit man hired to kill Robert Redford, meets with his CIA handler on the Arlington Memorial Bridge.
  • A Few Good Men - While playing softball near the Ericsson Memorial in West Potomac Park, slick Navy JAG attorney Tom Cruise meets Demi Moore.
  • Hannibal - FBI Agent Julianne Moore gets hit by a car in front of Union Station.
  • No Way Out - KGB spy Kevin Costner gets hit by a car then enters The Shops At Georgetown on Wisconsin Ave. near M Street, NW.
  • Murder at 1600 - Wesley Snipes roams the underground tunnels around the White House looking for a killer.
  • Spy Game - Retiring CIA agent Robert Redford races his Porsche 911 through DC to get to CIA headquarters in Langley to try to save rogue agent Brad Pitt. (I’m not sure he took the fastest route though).
