Visit Paris
While Lynn at The Paris Traveler may be a bit surprised see that I’m writing about Paris, she shouldn’t feel any competition.
About 60 miles west of DC is a quaint little town of Paris… Paris, Virginia, just a bit west of Middleburg. It’s population…only 49. I happened across Paris a couple weeks ago on a drive back from Luray Caverns while exploring a couple local wineries.
The highlight in town is the Ashby Inn & Restaurant which was built in 1829. During the Civil War in 1861, Confederate Generals Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson and Joseph E. Johnston stopped at the inn about a month before the first battle of Bull Run (Manassas).
The inn’s 10 rooms (6 in the main house and 4 in the school house) are decorated in 19th-century furniture, including four-poster beds and period quilts and rugs, with four offering wood burning fireplaces. Room rates range from $155 - $295 and include a country-style breakfast.
Dinner at the inn is served Wednesdays through Sundays (6:00 - 9:00 p.m.) , along with a Sunday brunch ($24.00) from noon until 2:30. The menu changes regularly and features local ingredients, game and Chesapeake seafood. Entrees run $20-$32, plus sides ($4-$5). They also have an extensive wine list and offer pairing recommendations with each entree.

Paris, Virginia! I knew about Paris, Texas (thanks to the film) but I had no idea there was one in Virginia! The countryside looks just like Normandy! With wineries and all, are you sure you weren’t on a little side trip to France?!

Not sure the Virginia wines can compete with the French ones yet, but give us a couple more years. It is beautiful - wine and horse county.
