Three Styles of Dance - Indian, Modern and Country Western
Indian Dance Bharata Natyam is an updated offshoot of traditional Cathir dance, the classic Indian temple dance style that was started over 2000 years ago in Southern India. It combines rhythm and melody with aesthetic perfection. It often tells a story with the use of colorful and flowing costumes and music.
The Dakshina / Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company is an emerging dance company that brings together a traditional Indian dance form called Bharata Natyam as well as modern dance.
Dakshina will perform a total of eight dances, one traditional Indian piece and seven modern pieces including a company premiere of Kaddish, by renowned choreographer Anna Sokolow. She studied under and danced with contemporary dance diva, Martha Graham, in the 1930s. This piece tells the story of traditional Jewish mourning to express the sorrow and anguish of the Holocaust.
Additionally, (and completely different, by the way) The DC Cowboys dance company will also be performing. With 20 dancers, The DC Cowboys is an all male performing arts team for DC gay men who’s trademark is Broadway style country-western high-energy stompin’ performed by fit, good looking (often shirtless) men in cowboy hats.

Tickets – Adults $32.50, students $22.50, premium seats $75.00 and are available online.
Nearest Metro subway station – Tenleytown/AU on the Red line, then a 3-block walk to the theater.
Parking - Garage parking is available under the theatre. Use the Van Ness Street entrance.
