The Magna Carta Returns to DC

In some great historical news, the Magna Carta, which had been on display until last October at the The National Archives, will be returning as a permanent public display at The National Archives, beginning this evening.

The 1297 charter of English la, which had been on display for over 20 at the Archives, and one of the only 20 versions, establishes the rights and personal freedoms of British citizens.

In October, the former owner, the Perot Foundation, announced it would sell the only copy on display in the United States.  The rare document was sold at a December auction at Sotheby’s in New York City for $21,321,000.

It will be on public display, along with other notable pieces of American history, including The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Visitors should enter The National Archives Rotunda
Constitution Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW.

Dates and Times - Daily 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m. March 15th through Labor Day. The last admission is 30 minutes prior to closing.

Admission - Free. 

Nearest Metro Subway Station - Archives/Navy Memorial - Green or Yellow line, then a 1-block walk or use the DC Circulator.

Parking - Metered street parking is available on Constitution Ave.
