The Accordion. . .It’s Not Just for Polkas Anymore.

by Jon on June 16th, 2007

The month of June is International Accordion Awareness Month (as if we really need a reminder to keep the accordion in the front of our conscienceness).

Regardless of what style of music you associate the accordion with, there are countless more - the classic polka band at a German brauhaus, a gypsy violinist and an accordion accompaniest at a romantic resturant, some foot-stompin’ Zydeco music from Lousiana, a bit of Tejano tunes from Texas that make you want to dance or…yes, even your CD collection may have some accordion music. Members of Pink Floyd, Green Day, Los Lobos and Styx have all played the accordion.

So I did of bit of research and discovered that there are several accordion events planned throughout the area during the summer and you can catch some live accordon players at several local resturants.

I haven’t heard accordion music in years. Certainly didn’t expect to hear that they were showing up as entertainment in restaurants. I must definitely be eating at the wrong spots. I bet the people eating at the “eateries” above, have a great time! :)
