Photo of the Week – The Citroen 2CV

I came across this classic Citroën 2CV, parked on a residential street in Arlington, Virginia.
As France’s answer to the VW Beetle, just 250 of the 2CV’s were built just before the start of WW-II in 1939. After the war, when production began resumed, it became a very popular car across France.
By 1990 when production ceased, over 3.8 million had been sold.

Three engine options were available, a 375 cc, a 435 cc or the “powerful” 602 cc engine. None created more than 40 horsepower. By comparison, the current Honda Civic engines produce 4 to 7 times more horsepower than the largest …read more

Naked Sunbathers?

Naked Sunbathers?

Another strange bike ride encounter. This time at Cable’s Mill, a old grain mill built around 1747, located in the Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Fairfax County.
I saw what looked like some naked sunbathers on the patio of the mill.

I wondered if the park had gone clothing optional.

When I got closer, I realized it was a few medical dummies.
The dummies were part of a military training exercise. The soldiers were getting ready to go back for another tour in Iraq.

Photo of the Week – Hillary Tees…3 for $10

Photo of the Week – Hillary Tees…3 for $10

I’m not sure if the price of Hillary Clinton tee-shirts will go up in price as collectors scoop up memorabilia related to the first woman to have a viable chance at winning the White House, or plummet in price as she fades back into her role as a New York Senator.
Or, is a Obama/Hillary tee the next new fashion statement for the Fall election season?
But this site, of a Washington, DC street vendor’s tee-shirt offerings,  may not be something you see again, (at least for another 4 years).
But I suspect these Hillary tees will quickly end up in the 5 for …read more

A Lesson from Mom

A Lesson from Mom

A bike ride this week resulted in a fun encounter with a newborn fawn and its protective mother. The fawn was so young, it was still having problems with balance and moving faster than a slow, and somewhat unstable, walk.  It was too cute.
Watching them interact, it seemed too easy to add some all to common mother-child dialog…

“Now son, you need to be careful. Stay away from strangers and always stay near me and NEVER cross the path alone.”
“Okay Mom, can I go play?”

“Hey you…on the bicycle with the camera, wanna play??”

“Junior, get back here…right now. What did I tell …read more

Mach 3 with Your Hair on Fire

Mach 3 with Your Hair on Fire

Everything from vintage WW-II war birds to the latest F-35 Joint Strike fighter were on display this past weekend at Andrews Air Force Base for the annual Joint Service Open House and Air Show.
There was a great exhibit on the Berlin Airlift inside a vintage C-54 with a few volunteers,  including one woman who was in the British Sector during the airlift and had a few great stories about the living conditions. She was able to emigrate to the U.S. and you could here how proud she was to be an American..
Here are a few photos of the many …read more

Photo of the Week – A Storm is Coming

Photo of the Week – A Storm is Coming

A couple weeks ago, after enjoying dinner on my deck, some massive thunderstorm clouds developed, just before sunset.  Here’s what one looked like.

Luckily, the storm’s bark was worse than it’s bite.
