Since It’s Monday, and I typically write a Monument Monday, but here’s one that’s monument to the performing arts – The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Next weekend, enjoy over 30 FREE music, dance and artistic performances at Washington, DC’s premiere center for the arts, The Kennedy Center and their annual Open House.
The range of entertainment of as varied as the number of performers.

Great Music for Film Buffs

A few times a season, the National Symphony Orchestra steps out of its traditional role of playing famous classical music by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Wagner, and play scores from classic Hollywood movies.
For two evenings in September, the NSO will perform music from some of the greatest films of all time. 
The first evening, Classical Hollywood, includes selections from movies that use classical music as parts of their score, including Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, The Godfather, and Raging Bull.

Memorial Day Music at the Capital

Join about 300,000 other patriotic music fans on the lawn of the Capitol as we honor America’s fallen heroes at the annual National Memorial Day Concert in Washington, DC.
This year’s list of musical entertainers include one of my favorite female vocalists, the always entertaining Grammy winner, Natalie Cole. I saw Natalie sing last summer at Wolftrap and she puts on a great show.
Also on the list of singers is Josh Turner, who has recently toured with George Strait and Carrie Underwood, jazz singer Jane Monheit and R&B vocalist CeCe Winans.
