Weekend Lights at the Cathedral

If you happen to pass by Washington National Cathedral at night this weekend, you may want to stop by to watch the exterior illumination and lighting show projected on to the south and west sides of the building.
In celebration of the Cathedral’s centennial, and the observance of the feast of Pentecost, Swiss lighting artist Gerry Hofstetter brings his illumination light art for three nights to Washington, DC for a free show. 
One of the artist’s most famous lighting efforts was the lighting of icebergs in Antarctica. Images included a polar bear and a map of the continent.

National Cathedral Flower Mart

Attention Gardeners!! Washington’s National Cathedral’s 69th annual outdoor Flower Mart Festival brings together 50 boutique booths, filled with home and garden items, antiques, books adn garden related products. Purchase a few bedding plants then tour the landscape exhibits and gardens. Plus there’s tons of fun for children. Kids can enjoy the moon bounce, rock climbing wall, a puppet show, a mini-ferris wheel and an antique carousel.

And don’t forget to sample a Flower Mart tradition, a lobster roll or any of the other food offerings.

Passes to attend the services on Saturday, December 24th at the National Cathedral are required for the 6:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. services.
On Christmas day however, passes are not required for the 9:00 a.m. televised service, or the noon or 4:00 p.m. services.
To request passes (limit 6 per request), specify the service and mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

A limited number of passes will be available one-half hour before each service outside of the Cathedral’s west entrance. service, for the noon or 4:00 p.m. services.
