Besides the skating rink at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, skaters can find several other outdoor ice skating rinks around Washington, DC to enjoy some holiday skating fun around. Lace up your skates and enjoy outdoor skating at any the of the ice skating rinks listed below.

All the rinks offer skate rentals, and charge under $8.00 for ice time. Check the rink’s website for hours and fees. Most are open Christmas and New Year’s Day.

National Gallery of Art Ice Rink Opens Tomorrow.

The Fall weather has been so mild in Washington, DC, it’s hard to believe that the ice skating rink at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is scheduled to open tomorrow (a day where the forecast predicts rain and a high temperature of over 60 degrees).

Dates and Times – November 15 through mid-March, 2009

Monday – Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday -10:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Sunday – 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The rink is Closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Admission - The fee covers two-hours of skating. Adults – $7.00, Seniors, students with ID and kids under 13 – $6.00. Sessions begin on the hour.

In the evening, use the Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive entrance at 9th Street entrance.

Skate Rentals – $3.00 with ID and rental lockers are just 50¢ with a $5.00 required deposit.

The National Gallery of Art is open Monday – Saturday, 10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Ice Skating at National Gallery of Art

While New York has Rockefeller Center for winter outdoor ice skating, nothing compares with skating while surrounded by fine works of sculpture and great music at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. So now that the cold winter weather has arrived in DC, the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden ice-skating rink is open.

If you get cold, the Pavilion Café serves hot chocolate, coffee and tea (even beer or wine), as well as sandwiches and salads, but closes a couple hours before the rink closes.

- Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
- Friday & Saturday 10 a.m.- 11 p.m.
- Sunday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Through March 15th, weather permitting

Admission – $7 for a two-hour sessions –starts on the hour, $6.00 for seniors and kids

Skate Rental – Figure skates only are available to rent for $3.00 with ID and lockers for $.50 with $5.00 deposit.

Admission to the National Gallery is free.

Nearest Metro subway stations – Judiciary Square – Red line, Archives – Yellow and Green lines or Smithsonian – Blue and Orange lines then a short walk

Parking – Metered parking is available.
