]]> William Shakespeare portraitAs part of the ultimate citywide Shakespeare Festival running from January through June, venues across Washington DC will be presenting all kinds of Shakespearian events, including music, dance, plays, film, art and more.  With over 20 classic retellings of Will’s most notable plays such as Hamlet and King Lear to more avant-garde or “unique” interpretations of the Bard’s works, there’s bound to be something for everyone. Recognized as one of the Queens of Jazz, Britain’s singing sensation Dame Cleo Laine will bring her rich, smoky jazz vocals mixed with interpretive scat rhythms to the Kennedy Center as part of the city’s Shakespeare Festival. She’ll be singing selections from her DownBeat five-star winning recording of Shakespeare and All That Jazz. One can also suspect shell perform a few great jazz standards as well. With close to 100 albums and recording spanning her 50-year career, she is the only performer to be nominated for Grammys in the Female Jazz, Popular, and Classical categories. The John F.
