The 2008 National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC will be lit this evening, Thursday, December 4, 2008, at 5:00 p.m.  It is the last time the tree will be lit by President and First Lady Bush.  Next Christmas, President Obama will have the honors.
Tickets went fast for the event, but the grounds will be open to public 24-hours through January 1, 2009.
Besides the National Christmas Tree, visit the Pathway of Peace, with decorated Christmas trees from each of the states and U.S. territories, along with the National Yuletide Log.

The famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the world-famous Rockettes, is coming to Baltimore in early December.

As part of a 23 city national tour, the Rockettes, dressed in their famous Babes in Toyland outfits, will delight audiences with their precision chorus line dancing and signature high kicks.
I saw the Rockettes’ show in New York City a few years ago and it is a fun performance.

The Smithsonian’s Asian and Eastern art museum, The Sackler Gallery on the National Mall, is hosting an exhibit of some of the oldest Bible artifacts in existence inan exhibit called In the Beginning: Bibles before the Year 1000.
Over the centuries, the iconic Bible as it’s known today has changed and evolved to what we know it to be today. But it’s original form included stories and teaching that over the ages have been modified or completely eliminated.

National Christmas Tree Lighting & Pageant of Peace – Dec. 7

When President Calvin Coolidge lit the first national Christmas tree in Washington DC on the Ellipse, Christmas Eve in 1923, he began an annual tradition that continues today.
The current National Christmas tree, a 39 foot Colorado blue spruce was moved from Pennsylvania in 1978 and transplanted across from the South lawn of the White House on the Ellipse.  It will be lit along with other smaller trees representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories.
