Along with the annual explosion of flowers and color during the blooming of the cherry trees around the National Mall, comes the annual National Cherry Blossom Parade down Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC.
Join the Cherry Blossom Queens (both from the U.S. and Japan) as they lead the annual National Cherry Blossom Parade, complete with marching bands, dance teams, drum and bugle corps, and more.

Woman on-the-Street Interview
Late Wednesday morning, I witnessed a local television reporter conducting on-the-street interviews of people visiting the cherry blossoms near the Washington Monument.
The moment the interview started, the tourist visiting from Italy, turned her own video camera on herself. When the reported ask why she was recording her own interview, she commented, “for the people back in Italy”.
You can see her holding her video and pointing it toward herself and the crew. I guess that’s one way to prove you used up a couple of your fifteen minutes of fame.

Prefer to Avoid the Cherry Blossom Crowds?
Want to see a huge selection of ornamental cherry trees in all their glorious full bloom, but prefer to avoid the crowds at the Tidal Basin this weekend?
Then try a visit to the 450-acre U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, DC.
The park has over 2,000 cherry trees on their grounds representing 230 different species, varieties and cultivated forms of ornamental cherry trees. Plus there’s additional flowering plum and apricot trees.

Washington, DC in Full Bloom
The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Washington, DC. Despite recent cold weather and rain, the trees are showing their all their beauty.
And the cold hasn’t stopped people from bundling up in winter clothes and lining up to rent a paddle boat on the Tidal Basin either.
So far this Spring, the high temperatures have been sticking between 45 and 55 degrees, a near 30 degree drop from the balmy temps last year, when highs cracked 80 degrees and made for comfortable touring.

Monument Monday – The Cherry Blossoms
You know it’s Springtime when the cherry blossoms in Washington, DC start to bloom. And while they are not an official DC monument, the cherry trees in full blossom are one of Washington, DC’s most prized and loved attractions.
The 2-week festival begins Saturday, March 29th and runs until Sunday, April 13th, with peak viewing some time during that two weeks. But I recommend that, if possible, you get down to the National Mall early (the first weekend) to view the blossoms. Historically, DC’s spring rains and wind can often put an abrupt and early end to the show.

Music, Fireworks and Food – Tonight on the SW Waterfront
As part of the Cherry Blossom Festival, tonight at the Southwest Waterfront is the fourth annual Prelude to the Fireworks and fireworks display.
The event includes three hours of family entertainment including music, kids crafts and food from local restaurants.
Dates and Time – Saturday, April 7. The festival begins at 5:30 with the fireworks starting at 8:30 p.m.
Great views of the fireworks should be from anywhere on South Water St., SW or along Ohio St. in East Potomac Park.
