Peter and the Wolf

by Jon on October 7th, 2007

Peter and the WolfSergei Prokofiev, started life as a child prodigy.  Before he was ten years old, he composed his first opera. Considered by many to the greatest classical music composers of the 20th century, his works include the music scores to the ballets Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella and countless symphonies, orchestral suites, operas and even a few marches.

One composition and story he wrote was a piece for  children to enjoy, with a very rememberable melody, the story of Peter and the Wolf.

Disney's Peter and the Wolf - 1946Peter, living on his grandfather’s farm, accidentally leaves the garden gate open which allows Sonia the duck to leave the yard.  Eventually a big, bad wolf appears and swallows the duck.  Peter devises a plan to trap the wolf with the help of a bird and cat, and ultimately saves the duck, still quacking in the wolf’s stomach.  But the story changes when the townspeople come to kill the trapped wolf and Peter again must now devise a plan to save the wolf.
