Paddle the Potomac in Style
Ever try kayaking? Now that the waters of the Potomac are a bit warmer, it’s a perfect time to take a class and try your luck at paddling the rapids or just drifting on the river.
The 3-hour Basic Strokes introductory kayaking class at Piscataway Creek Kayak Center in nearby Fort Washington, MD can get you started quickly.
You’ll be introduced to the basic tools of kayaking - boat, paddles, PFDs (personal flotation devices) and other safety gear. Then learn entering and exiting the boat, basic strokes and safety. In no time, you’ll be ready to hit the water, in a safe and sheltered cove.
You can also take an all-day more advanced intro class ($149) as well.
Piscataway Creek Kayak Center is just 15 miles from DC on the Potomac, and a few blocks from historic Fort Washington on the Potomac.
If you get the hang of it, you might want to try your luck paddling down Great Falls. Check out the video.

Dates and Times - Sundays - 9:00 a.m. - noon, through September 23rd.
Class Costs - $69.00
Rental Costs – various hourly kayak rental options are available, from $20.00 for a 2-hour rental of a single sit-on or open cockpit kayak to $45.00 for an all-day rental of a plastic sea kayak or tandem kayak. A credit card deposit is required on all rentals.
NOTE - Kids 13-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have a parent’s release. Kids under 12 must be in a tandem with an adult. Minimum age is 5 years.

It looks like a blast, but based on what the guy in the green kayack is doing, one’s last will and testament should probably be in proper order.

Good call. I’ve watched the kayakers in the fast water and it looks frightening.
