National Memorial Day Concert
Here’s just one more Memorial Day event, the National Memorial Day Concert on the Capitol lawn.
Join the National Symphony at the annual National Memorial Day Concert which this year, commemorates the 62nd anniversary of the battle for Iwo Jima. The concert will also pay tribute to the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to their families left behind.
National Symphony Orchestra headlines the show with Grammy-winner singer Natalie Cole and county music singer Josh Turner performing. Also performing are the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants, the U.S. Army Chorale, the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, and the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
Several well-known actors will read stories include Dianne Wiest, Jimmy Smits and Charles Durning.

Washington, DC
Date and Time - Sunday, May 27th, 8:00 to 9:30 p.m.
Tickets - free, no tickets required. Checkpoints with metal detectors will be set up to search bags and parcels. Entrance to the concert is at the southwest corner of the Capitol grounds.
Nearest Metro subway station - Capitol South, Federal Center SW, Orange and Blue lines, and Union Station Red line. Parking - Street parking will be very difficult that evening, so I strongly recommend using Metro.

The concert was meaningful, but during the musical tribute to the branches of service, the National Guard was omitted. Don’t know if they even have a song, but it would be nice if they were recognized.

I would like to know the music that was being played as Dianne Weist read from the notebook of the mother of fallen Marine Eric Herzberg. I believe it was Wagner, but don’t know the opera from which it originated~~~it was beautifully moving, as was the entire program. Thank you and God’s blessings from the proud wife of a Vietnam veteran.
