My Drive in the Country

by Jon on December 12th, 2007

We’ve had our first snowfall of the season. The first frost of the season has come and gone, killing any Fall bedding plants.  And the annual tradition of people freaking out due to a trace of snow on the roads has occurred, all without major death and destruction.

And sadly, that means most of the trees have lost all their color.

So I thought I’d post a few photos of the drive I took last month out to the Shenandoah National Park to drive the famous Skyline Drive

I only drove about 32 miles of the 105 mile road, stopping about a dozen times along the way to check out the views and take a few photos at the many outlooks and vistas.

The colors were about 65 percent of their peak and I even encountered a bit of snow at the higher elevations.

The sun was, at times, partially cloud-covered, which did not burn off the morning haze, but made for some wonderful views.

The foliage was very late in changing color this year, due to some unseasonably warm October weather and not much rain.

If you get a chance, the views are great along the drive, I assume, just about any time of year.
