Learn to Blow Glass
The first records of man-made glass date back to the Middel East around 2000 BC. The art of blowing glass was first invented about a thousand years later. Since that time, the art of glass blowing has evolved to allow glass artists to create stunningly beautiful pieces.
To give you an idea of the glass blowing process, here’s a link to a Philladelphia glass studio with a series of photos that demonstrate the start to finish process of making a Venetian wine goblet. And another from a San Francisco studio on making a glass bowl.
DC GlassWorks in suburban Hyattsville, MD is a public glass studio for glass blowers and students. They offer classes in traditional hot glass blowing and a glass working facilities open to artists and students.
They ocasionally host an open house (call or check their site for details) that showcases glassblowing demonstrations, and offers an opportunity to learn about the art of glass blowing, including the techniques and tools used in the process. You can talk with instructors and learn about the art. Who knows, you may decide to take a class and become the next glass master.
