It’s Fashion Week!

by Jon on September 21st, 2007

No, not in New York or Pairs…In Washington, DC.

While I doubt we’ll be seeing a flock of Hollywood celebrities, the top paid super models such as Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss or Heidi Klum strutting their stuff on the runway, or global controversies over 13-year old models on the runway, but you will get an opportunity to attend the largest fashion shows in DC.

Original Spring and Summer 2008 lines from an eclectic group of over 40 women’s fashion designers will be strutted at three unique shows – the single designer Corjor International Show, International Collections Showcase and the International Ethical Fashion Show.

Some of the designers presenting their works are:

  • Amore - Designer Benny Osamor who is known as the Official First Lady Hat Designer.
  • Anthony Eastwick - His designs have been seen at the MTV Music Awards, BET Awards, The Grammy’s and the VH1 Fashion Awards.
  • Betsey Johnson – This popular and at times wild New York designer built her long-standing career by not following rules. Johnson has designed for many celebrities including Courtney Love, Paris Hilton, Lil’ Kim, Salma Hayek, Heather Graham, and Helena Bonham Carter.
  • Carioca Wear - designer of colorful Brazilian bikinis made in Rio de Janeiro.

  • Emore’J Couture – a local 19 year old designer and student at the U of DC.
  • Jabargue Vogue - Samuel Lake began drawing sketches of women’s clothing at the age of 14 and has since designed wedding and pageant gowns, as well as costumes for Carnival in his native St. Croix.
  • Kenny Flannagan – Kenny’s KAS Collection is the first African American couture designer sold at Sak’s Fifth Avenue.
  • Konstantina Mittas – This line is described as a combination of Wild West bordello sophistication mixed with outlaw style inspired by the 1960s spaghetti westerns. Sounds fun!
  • Leona Edmiston - Called Australia’s “first lady of frocks”, her pieces have been worn by Elle MacPherson, Tyra Banks and Sean Young and are available at retailers such as Barney’s New York.

I am very excited about fashion week, & the “raw, awsome” talent that will be displayed. I am an 47 year old women & a Washingtonian. I am as excited about being 47, has I am about the show. Considering that your designers are over 40, has anyone thought of having a “Wonderful” 47 year old walk the catwalk ? I would be honored

Regina: Great idea!! I’d recommend you contact the organizers and apply to strut your stuff on the catwalk.
