Holiday Decorating on Steroids
About an hour west of Washington, DC is Manassas, Virginia, home of the Manassas Battlefield National Park, the site of two famous civil War battles. But just a short drive from the park is one of the nicest stores for Christmas decorations and holiday home decor in the area, The Flower Garden of Manassas.
The large store, (also a Hallmark shop), is filled almost to overload, with beautiful holiday decorations, pre-decorated trees, fresh and silk floral arrangements and centerpieces, and many more one-of-a-kind holiday items. All to make your home more festive and beautiful this holiday season.
While most days, the friendly owner, Doug Burroughs, and his son aren’t greeting women customers with fresh long-stem roses in front of their store, it is a friendly and inviting place, any day of the week.
Doug runs this family-owned business with wife Daphne and his brother. He bought the store, then a much smaller operation, over 31 years ago when he was just out of high school. And it’s been growing ever since. Having outgrown their store, he’s expanded to larger locations in the same strip mall 4 different times.
The items and themes change with the seasons and holidays as well as with the evolution of designer colors and decorating trends. And all of the fresh and silk flower arrangements are made on-site.
Last Sunday, during their annual Christmas open house, I heard one customer say, “Half of Manassas is here…and the other half is on their way.” Proving it’s a well-known Manassas destination for holiday home decor shopping.
And don’t miss the photo op with the kids in front of the store, posing with the holiday horse.
