The DC Traveler

Hello and Welcome to the DC Traveler

by Jon on October 16th, 2006

Hello and welcome to The DC Traveler.

I’m Jon and I’ll be your local travel guide to all things fun in our Nation’s Capital — Washington, DC.

Washington DC, with its diverse population and rich history, has so many fun attractions, sites and activities as well as great food, events and nightlife. Washington DC is an ideal city to live in, work and to visit often.  Not only is it the capital city of the U.S., but the DC, Baltimore and Northern Virginia region is the 4th most populated metro area in the U.S. (Only behind the metro areas of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago).  I hope that tells you…there’s always something enjoyable and entertaining to do in the District.

Through The DC Traveler, I’ll try to acquaint you with the many attractions, historic sites, activities and events, nightlife, memorials and monuments, the many area museums, including the Smithsonian, and virtually countless site seeing destinations.  Additionally, I’ll tell you about some great restaurants and more.

To help you feel like a “local”, you may also see a bit of insider information laced with some DC history as well.

Over time, The DC Traveler will hopefully be a regular and useful resource for you, whether you’re a first-time visitor, or a DC, Virginia or Maryland resident that loves to experience all that that DC has to offer.

So please feel free to visit often and tell your friends about The DC Traveler.  And remember that you’re welcome to post comments on my articles about Washington DC and recommend your favorite DC spots for tourists and locals as well.

I hope you’ll enjoy The DC Traveler.  And thanks for stopping by.

Jon — Really like your blog on DC — just learned about it this AM from Mary Jo (Fly Away Cafe).

Am leaving for DC this evening, returning Saturday afternoon. Would very much appreciate a recommendation or two on restaurants you love and a couple of clubs or after-work gathering places that are “the” places to be seen or where local political celebs go.

    thanks very much.

DC has so many great places to eat. I personally love Zatinya in the China Town area. It’s Middleastern tapas and mezza plates. Very hip crowd in the bar, interesting food always delights. Plan on a wait of 60 minutes on weekends, but the bar it tres chic. Another place near the White House is Old Ebbitt Grill. Usually full of politicos, FBI agents, tourists adn new pele. Good food - steaks, crab cakes, etc. more casual, always on DC’s fun places list.
