Blue Man Group

The cimbalom, the chapman stick, airpoles, drums, PVC tubes and gongs make up the instrumentation.   Blue neon grease-painted faces, music, comedy and multimedia theatrics in a party atmosphere make up the rest.
The area closest to the stage as the “poncho section”, and patrons are provided ponchos to protect them from flying “materials” used in […]

Monument Monday - The FDR Memorial

America’s 32nd and only 4 term President (1933-45), Franklin Delano Roosevelt led the nation out of the Great Depression and through most of World War II.
Growing up in upstate New York, FDR won a seat on the New York State Senate and later was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy by President Woodrow […]

Fall Colors are Peaking!!

I was driving in Northern Virginia yesterday, at the time when the sun was just about to set over the trees and noticed this pond with some explosive colors of fall foliage.
I shot just a few seconds of video and here it is — my first mini-clip.
This upcoming weekend will be the best time to take a drive to […]

Frida Kahlo’s Personal Photos and Letters

When I ask people to name as many famous fine art painters who were women, the list is usually fairly short. I’m not sure why so few names are front of mind.  The list usually stalls after just a few names. Grandma Moses. Mary Cassett. Georgia O’Keeffe. And perhaps… Frida Kahlo.
Frida Kahlo was probably best known for her expressive and […]

Time to Party - National Aviation Day

On the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday in 1939, the U.S. first officially celebrated the development of human flight

Don’t Try this Flying in or out of DC…

With significantly more security on flights originating in or departing from DC, this couple would probably been in much more trouble had they been headed to Reagan National.

Video of the Week

With all the presidential candidates on the campaign trail, I hear the Secret Service is looking for a few more agents to protect them all.
Obviously, these guys probably wouldn’t make the cut.

The Escaping(?) Panda

While I can’t positively confirm, it looks as if the escapee is the “little” panda cub Tai Shan who just turned two this month, from DC’s National Zoo.
Wanting to get outside, Tai got a bit of help from mom.
Click here to watch the clip of it magically escaping from it’s cage (the escape was only to its […]

Messing with the Virginia DMV

In another driver related story…While I think my local Virginia VDOT is probably the fastest DMV in the nation, this guy obviously has a bit too much time on his hands.
