Capital Fringe Festival - July 19-29

by Jon on July 15th, 2007

Explore the works of emerging DC area artists at the Capital Fringe Festival starting Thursday.

The festival invites art lovers and people not traditionally interested in art to discover “new, risk-taking art”.  So what’s this “new risk-taking art”?  Think performance art, poetry, plays, dance, music, video, visual arts, comedy, stories and more.  The list of events is over 100 long.

Some of the performances that sound rather interesting that I’m hoping to get to include:

  • From BurleyQTelemonster at the D.C. Arts Center Theater - A professional prank caller meets the woman of his dreams through a prank call.
  • Reefer Madness: The Musical at The Studio Theatre.  Need I say more?
  • The Super Secret Show - Espionage. Intrigue. Danger. Striptease…?? At The Scientarium.
  • Guerilla New Music - A Great Noise Ensemble concert of ”guerilla style” music by genre-blending masters and emerging talents.
  • Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes) at Woolly Mammoth Theatre - Main Stage - With the audiences deciding the order of 30 short plays, no two performances are alike.

Dates and Times - the festival runs July 19-29.

Locations - 20 area theaters and performance centers.

Tickets - prices vary by performance and are available online or at various locations around the city. Also available are All Access Passes ($300) which gets you into every show or the the Six Pack, good for six admissions ($75).
