A Taste of New Zealand
While the hot dog may be the American classic lunch, to a New Zealander, it’s the meat pie.
Known as the “Kiwi Café”, Cassatt’s Café and Gallery offers suburban Arlington diners a taste of New Zealand.
Named after the American Impressionist painter, Mary Cassatt, the café is a combined restaurant/coffeehouse/wine bar/art gallery and artist’s studio.
This “no worries” casual, often self-service café offers sandwiches, burgers and about a half a dozen dinner-sized entrées.
But most probably, their signature dish, is their hand made New Zealander meat pies. From breakfast pies such as bacon and eggs to hardier pies such as steak and kidney, curry chicken, roast lamb, or Portobello mushrooms, chicken and cheese, give you a sampling of what a true kiwi pie is all about.
Try a “Flat White” coffee, the kiwi version of Café Olé.
In the basement of the restaurant, the Arlington Artists Academy offers art classes and workshops to the public and conducts exhibits around the metro area. Classes include drawing and painting, watercolors and oil painting techniques.
