JVs in Arlington for Live Music
Blues, rockabilly, acoustic, oldies, bluegrass, honky tonk saxophone, even all-girl hard rock –that’s just a few of the styles of live music you can hear at JV’s Restaurant and Bar seven nights a week.
Opened back in 1947 in a new strip mall on Arlington Blvd, JV’s was named after the Arlington neighborhood, Jefferson Village.
The place originally just served food, but in the early 1950s, a couple patrons brought in their guitars and started playing bluegrass during breakfast. Soon other patrons joined in and the owners started to book bands. Fast-forward almost 60 years and the original owner’s family is still running the place.
Decorated with photos, beer signs, Americana (check out Uncle Sam) and items , it’s been a place for local and touring bands to play original and cover music in a casual and intimate environment.
It’s a narrow place that snugly holds about 50 patrons, with the stage and a couple tables up front, booths along one wall and bar seats across from them and the kitchen/bar in the back. JV’s serves home-cooked bar food (try the homemade meatloaf) and stick-to-your-ribs breakfasts in the mornings (try the sausage gravy and biscuits).
Performance schedules are listed on their website, but it’s often only for the next week or two. They also have an open mic night with live accompaniment on Wednesdays, if local karaoke isn’t doing it for you.
So grab a beer, sit back and enjoy some great honky-tonk.

Dates and Times – Daily – 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. except Sundays when they open at 8:00 a.m. Most shows start around 9:00 p.m., but some Saturdays and Sundays, a different band may start playing around 4:00 p.m.
Tickets – Cover charges are usually under $5.00. Some nights and early shows are free.
Nearest Metro Subway Station – East Falls Church, Orange line, then a 5 minute cab or 10 minute bus ride.
Parking – Free parking is available.
