Pregnant Panda?
The National Zoo reports that one of the pandas, Mei Xiang, after artificial insemination, may (key word here is “may”) be expecting a little panda in the next few weeks. It’s tough for zoo keepers to tell as female pandas can only get pregnant on just a few days a year and they often show symptoms of pregnancy without actually being pregnant. And since the the size of a panda cub at birth is roughly the size of a stick of butter, she probably won’t “show” all that much.
Can you see a bit of a glow on the panda below? I took this photo last weekend at the National Zoo? Now I’m not a veterinarian, but I think I did see a bit of a glow on her.
If she’s expecting, a new baby panda would be one of only 20 or so panda cubs that have been born and survived in captivity outside of China.
