Chicago Comedy Icon -The Second City
Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre The Second City visits DC for what should be a hysterical comedy review. Start with some topical sketches, add some edgy improve, a dash of satire, and then stir things up by taking shots at everything sacred and anyone in public eye, and you’re sure to have a great laugh.
Performing since 1959, Chicago’s renowned comedy and improve group has been the training ground for some of America’s best comics, such as John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Chris Farley, Mike Myers and the list goes on.
When I lived in Chicago, The Second City would put on a new “review” every 6 months and I would rarely miss one. The Chicago troupe is now on it’s 94th review, called “Between Barack and a Hard Place“.
The “SC” touring company appearing at the Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse will bring some of Second City’s best skits, and most likely come up with a few special ones just for the DC politicos.
Here’s a 1989 clip of Bill Murray of Saturday Night Live fame returning to his roots at The Second City.
And here’s a basic promo piece, showcasing some of the comedy greats that get their start at The Second City.
